Recognizing the importance of educating the whole child, the Los Alisos Middle School Physical Education Department is committed to developing a child who is physically, mentally, emotionally and socially healthy. Such a child is more likely to become an adult who is motivated to remain healthy.
The promotion of healthy physical activity coupled with instilling a commitment to lifelong learning ensures that each student will leave Los Alisos Middle School with a positive self image and the ability to successfully meet and overcome new intellectual, social, emotional and physical challenges.
CURRICULUM
We have adopted the content standards for physical education prepared by the Physical Education Content Standards for California Public Schools, Kindergarten through Grade Twelve. The content standards specify, "What students should know and be able to do". They represent the essential skills and knowledge that all students need to maintain a physically active, healthy lifestye. There are five overall model content standards for elementary and middle school children. They are:
Standard 1: Demonstrate motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activitie.
Standard 2: Demonstarte knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies as they apply to learning and performance of physical activities.
Standard 3: Assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performances.
Satndard 4: Demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, strategies to improve health and performance.
Standard 5: Demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and socilogical concepts, principles, and strategies as applied to learning and performance of physical activity.
